February brought another great landscape lighting conference to the industry courtesy of The Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP) in San Antonio, TX. Each year the AOLP puts on an amazing landscape lighting conference, and this year there was no exception to that. The conference began with CLVLT (Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician) testing and COLD (Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer) Year 2 Program. These programs and certifications are designed to bring attention to the professional landscape lighting designer and installer. The landscape lighting conference brought some great educational seminars as well. Some of the classes included:
- Utilizing Technology to Improve Business (Elyse Jordan, Houzz)
- Advanced Technologies in LED Landscape Systems (Eric Milz, president of Sales Terralux, Inc.)
- Best Practices Panel Discussion- Controls (Matthew Broyles: Firefly Lighting, Michael Deo: Naturescape Lighting, Michael Sestak: Sestak Lighting Design)
- The 5 D’s to Successful Selling (Jody Shilan, www.fromdesign2build.com)
- Best Practices- Design and Presentation Case Studies (Michael Deo: Naturescape Lighting)
- Behind the Scenes Alamo Tour (Joel Mayor: Texas Outdoor Lighting)
- Joel guided us through the Alamo and discuss the lighting challenges he faced while designing this project as well as the approach he used to fix those challenges on this historical site. We were able to get an exclusive after hours, behind the scenes tour.
