“Do it right, or do it twice.” – My Mama!
We have been in the outdoor lighting industry for a good number of years. And along the road, we have acquired knowledge through training and experience. We’ve seen the standard change from halogen to LEDs, and with good reason—money saved, energy saved, possibly lives or property saved through added safety and security brought about by all-night outdoor lighting made affordable by LED bulbs which burn cooler as well as less expensively.
One of the tougher lessons can be “do it right, or do it twice.” LED bulbs are more expensive than halogens, and were especially so in the very beginning. The temptation became to find less costly lamps. Our email was and continues to be inundated with offers of “LEDs for less!” or “Cheap LED Bulbs!” Unfortunately, you get what you pay for in this instance; those bulbs are not a deal. They are inexpensive for a reason: poor quality. And poor quality bulbs just will not last. Replacing them (doing it twice) is costly–money for labor, time lost from paying jobs, loss of customer trust, etc. So we refuse to use them. Our supplier is trustworthy. We strive to do it right–a quality product, installed properly, to give our customers the best experience and the best bang for their buck.
Often, cheap LED bulbs are not actually created for the outdoors. The humidity gets to them, or their components cannot handle the extreme temperatures, so you will see a much shorter lifespan of the bulb, which sort of negates a major reason for using LEDs. Save yourself the hassle of doing it twice: double check the bulb and make sure you are using the right product in the right manner.
