We’ve all got some hard surfaces on our property: driveway, patios, stair steps, retaining walls, pathways, seat walls, firepits, etc. So. . . . can I add landscape lighting to existing hardscaping? Of course Southern Lights can handle that for you. Here are some top ways to add landscape lighting to your hardscaping – be it to already existing concrete features or right from scratch.
Stair Steps:
These lights (tread lights) are tucked up under the step (tread) and shine down on the step below, making them barely visible. They illuminate the riser as well as the tread. No more tripping hazard!
Walls:
Undercap lights, which are subtle and, designed to be unobtrusive, are generally installed under a cap at the top of a retaining wall and angled to wash down the wall, showcasing the texture of the wall, and often lighting the pathway as well. Generally, these lights can also illuminate steps without glare when installed under step caps and can also be used on a firepit or to shine onto patio seating when tucked below benches.
Driveway Lighting:
There are many diverse ways to light a driveway. If you’ve got tall trees, moon lighting is a fantastic effect. Bollards alongside the driveway are gorgeous too. Lights installed in a retaining wall that runs alongside your driveway are a good idea as well. Low profile marker lights as well as path lights are considerations. There are plenty of other options out there!
Pool Deck Illumination:
Stumbling into the pool because it was too dark to see it is not on anyone’s bucket list! Pool decks can be lit in ways similar to driveways, or using undercap lights or possibly moonlighting techniques. It all just depends on what you’ve got surrounding your pool, but the options are many!
Of course it’s easier to install outdoor lighting that is planned for from the beginning of a project, but it is far more common to retroactively install it. So don’t be concerned about installing lighting in an existing hard surface–we’ve got the tools, the techniques and the ingenuity to do it.
