PROJECT SUMMARY

Main goal for these Northern Shores residents was to highlight the front architecture of home and their weekend / night time space in the backyard. During the design phase, Southern Lights provided the road map and detailed lighting designs for this client capturing this beautiful setting at night creating the most ideal landscape lighting scenes.

LIGHTING DESIGN

Ideal landscape lighting should evoke Safety. Security. SERENITY and should always start with a design. This lighting design good have gone done several paths. The front of the home where natural areas are located are being lit from the ground, but when Southern Lights got the columns, we could have either installed custom core drilled well lights shining up the columns and eaves, or went the soffits and installed custom recessed can lights shining down the column and onto the driveway.

Ultimately, our lighting designer, Pete Bryant, chose to use the recessed can lights to help accommodate the darkness found on the large driveway in the front of their home. Up lighting would not have provided enough reflective lighting to adequately light both the columns and driveway.

We use fixtures sparingly on this property and chose not to highlight every tree and shrub helping to give some drama to the lighting design.

HURDLES TO OVERCOME

Designing an ideal landscape lighting system takes planning. Getting light to the right place in the front and backyard took some skill and time to coordinate installing wire to the desired fixture location.
