PROJECT SUMMARY

This landscape lighting design project was created by Pete Bryant and installed by he and his team, Southern Lights of NC: Architectural and Landscape Lighting. This system utilized over 15 fixtures to draw attention to their beautiful new home in Summerfield, NC. Our clients were interested provide safety and security for their children while highlighting their home’s natural beauty. Lighting control and scene selection was also important to this couple giving them total control of their lighting system through the use of an app. They were looking for a way to link both outdoor lighting (low-voltage 12v) and indoor lighting (line-voltage 110v) into one product for control. Now when this couple travels or wants to give the appearance someone is at home, the automation system performs “automatically” for them.

LIGHTING FOCUS

Safety and security lighting with attention to home’s unique custom architecture. The rough texture of the stonework on this home allows for a very natural “grazing” effect really making the lighting design pop for this Summerfield, NC home. Client wanted to softly illuminated the front walk to create an inviting pathway from the driveway to the front door. Safety was the main focus here with an elevation change at front steps.

LIGHTING DESIGN

The goal of this lighting design was to capture the essence of the home by placing the directional spot lights correctly across the home front elevation.

HURDLES TO OVERCOME

New home construction typically likes to use offset peaks to highlight the architecture. This creates the need for light fixtures to be added to the gutters or soffits. Light unfortunately doesn’t bend, so when we have locations that we can’t use conventional lighting techniques and fixtures, we have to pull from our experience and custom applications.
Dimming Capabilities: required a lighting dimmer to control exterior and interior lighting.
Automate Lighting System and Give App Control: utilized our best selling automation software & app control
Scene Selection: required additional wire runs in order to group correct light fixtures together in order to create the proper scenes.
